The Weight Of Silence

August 24th, 2010

I recently read a book called The weight of Silence by Heather Gudenkauf.

One of the things that drew me to the book is that everything took place in Iowa.  This is actually the first fiction book I’ve read that was based in Iowa. Not only did it take place in Iowa but the Author resides in Iowa with her family.

The story takes place in a small town in Iowa.  The father is an abusive drunk and the little girl is a selective mute.

Early one morning the little girl and her friend go missing. As the story unravels you really get into the lives of both families. How a woman can stay in an abusive marriage.

This was a quick read and was very well written.  So if your looking for a book to read I highly recommend this one. :)

Color or Vintage?

August 22nd, 2010

Two weeks ago I did a little photo shoot with Sarah. Was just playing around.  I didn’t get to many shots as it was so hot out.  I have a crappy camera so the pics aren’t as good as they could of been.

I did manage to get one that I’m gonna print out into an 8×10 and put on my wall. The bad thing is I can’t decide which one.

So my faithful readers. Help me decide.

You’ve won

August 22nd, 2010

A couple of weeks ago I get a phone call telling me that Sarah won something from the raffle. She was given a free raffle ticket for entering the cutest baby contest.

I went to city hall to pick it up and it’s a die cast collectors edition Nascar bank. It is one of 150 that were made.

I let Sarah play with it the first day and then we’ve put it up so it doesn’t get ruined.

She was so happy to win it.  She’s such a lucky girl.

The hood opens up so you can see the engine it’s actually pretty cool. :)

She looks like such a big girl in that pic. Sighs….They are all growing up so fast.

Monsters

August 20th, 2010

Sarah had her first nightmare.  She woke up screaming. I ran into her and she looked terrified. I said Sarah whats wrong? She said scared, scared. I said did you have a bad dream? She nodded her head and said yes.  I said what scared you in your dream. She said a Monster was gonna eat her.

The only experience she’s had with Monsters is the movie Monsters Inc. which she watched the other day.   Poor girl was so upset. I was able to calm her down and she went back to sleep.

This afternoon we have meet and greet with Sophie and Emma’s teachers.  They have their back packs all packed. School supplies have been triple checked and they are ready.

Their first day will be this coming weds. I’m really not sure where this summer went, but it went by so fast.  We didn’t get to do one single thing as a family either. :( Sucks not ever having any money.

Didn’t even get to the swimming pool this year. This is the first year where we didn’t even go once.  Hopefully next year we can get a pool pass and go all the time.  Of course I say that every year. LOL

Sarah has been running a bit of a fever for the last day but I think she’s finally on the mend. We’ll see what morning brings.

I have a freebie for you. If your like me your gonna want it just because it’s free. LOL

They are called stand out stickers and you can get your free sample at this link. http://www.standoutstickers.com/request_custom_sticker_samples.php

Chuckle

August 20th, 2010

I got this joke in my e-mail today and it made me giggle so much I had to share.

Today’s word is…………….. Fluctuations
I was at my bank today; there was a short line.

There was just one lady in front of me, an Asian lady who was trying to exchange yen for dollars.
It was obvious she was a little irritated . . . She asked the teller, “Why it change? Yesterday, I get two hunat dolla fo yen. Today I only get hunat eighty? Why it change?”
The teller shrugged his shoulders and said, “Fluctuations.”
The Asian lady says, “Fluc you white people too”
